Bird & Wildlife Watching/Hunting

This area of southwestern Saskatchewan is home to a variety of unique bird species including Burrowing Owls, Canadian Geese, Golden Eagles, Prairie Falcons, Lark Sparrows, Yellow-breasted Chats and Red-headed Woodpeckers.  The area is also known for coyotes, mule and white-tail deer, antelope, foxes, badgers and many more.

Archeological Sites

Southwestern Saskatchewan was once home to many plains-dwelling First Nations Peoples. Vision quest circles, medicine wheels and stone effigies tell of the important role this area played in their culture. In order to respect both the sites and the current landowners, tours to some of these sacred areas are possible only through prior arrangement and permission.

The Great Sandhills

The Great Sandhills, a fascinating tract of huge, active sand dunes, supports one of the largest populations of Mule Deer and Sharp-tailed Grouse in Saskatchewan. It is also home to such rare and interesting creatures as the Ord's Kangaroo Rat. Enrich your visit to the Great Sandhills by visiting the Great Sandhills Museum, located in nearby Sceptre.

Leisurely canoe trips can be taken along the South Saskatchewan River from the Lancer Ferry to Cabri Park in the RM of Riverside.

Biking / Hiking / ATV’ing

The sandhills, pastures and coulees in the RM of Miry Creek are perfect for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy biking, hiking or ATV’ing. In order to respect landowners, please obtain permission prior to venturing out.

The South Saskatchewan River offers excellent fishing opportunities, including Walleye, Pike, Goldeye, Sturgeon and Black Mariahs. One of the most productive fishing locations is at Lancer Ferry. If you'd rather fish from your boat, a launch is available at nearby Cabri Park.

There are many excellent golf courses within short driving distance, including the Miry Creek Golf Course.
